BOB Strollers Reviewed

BOB Rambler Jogging Stroller

BOB Rambler Jogging Stroller

Kicking it off with one of our favorite choices, we can tell you that the Rambler Jogger has it all.

The first thing that’ll catch your eyes when you see this stroller is its super large wheels. They’re about 12 inches with mountain-bike like suspension. You know what that means, right?

Large wheels equal smoother rides. The front wheel is lockable with a swivel. Despite the fact that the wheels themselves are made of plastic, they have a strong rubber coating that makes them durable. The Rambler also features hand-controlled rear brakes.

This jogging stroller is a more compact version of its BOB precedents, and this is definitely one of its merits.

The most important feature, in my opinion, is the seat. Rambler’s seat is alright; it’s well-padded for your baby’s comfort and has an adjustable recline with a lie-flat position to help your baby get his or her napping time.

The cherry on top is that using only one hand, all you need to do is press a plastic toggle button to switch between different seat recline position positions. The only disadvantage is that the leg rest is a bit narrow and non-adjustable, this can be uncomfortable for your baby.

When it comes to the folding mechanism, it performs okay. It’s not the most efficient, though. First, because it requires 2 hands to do the folding. Second, because it has a 4-step folding mechanism that’ll take some time and effort. Like all BOB strollers, it doesn’t stand straight when folded, adding salt to injury.

Rarely do we come across a jogger that can accommodate ‘big babies’, whether fast-growing ones or those who have -technically- surpassed the stroller’s age limit, ugh!

If you’re interested in why there’s no such thing and why it’s totally okay to put your 5-year-old in a stroller sometimes, check this out.

Back to the Rambler, it’s quite spacious and sturdy that it carries babies up to 75 lbs! While still being compact and maneuverable.

The regular 5-point harness is present here with an adjustable crotch area strap and no rethreading. If you’re wondering what that means, it’s simply that there’s only 1 visible shoulder strap slot, whose height is adjusted by raising or lowering the headrest.

BOB Rambler features a large past-knee canopy with an average peek-a-boo window that closes with regular velcro straps. It doesn’t entail a UV protection feature, though.

Cleaning this jogger is easy; you need to go through the seat, wiping it with a sponge soaked in lukewarm water then rinse thoroughly. Avoid using detergents, as per the manufacturer’s instructions.

You can convert it into a travel system if you buy the BOB car adapter. It works with both BOB & Britax car seats. It works with some Graco car seats as well.

  • Fits up to 75 lbs.

  • Travel system friendly

  • Smooth riding

Cons

  • Not the best folding mechanism
  • Car seat is a bit narrow

Best For: Jogging & light activity

As the name suggests, the Rambler is rather for lightly active parents, who’d fancy a walk or a light jog around the town every now and then. For hardcore runners, it won’t be your best pick.

There’s even a better option from BOB for your case. Check out the Revolution.

BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 Jogging Stroller

BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 Jogging Stroller

What sets the BOB Gear Revolution Flex from its counterparts on this list, especially the Rambler?

  • More speed stability. Hence, more suitable for running
  • Adjustable handlebar
  • UV protection canopy
  • Ultra reflective fabric

These are the key differences that make the Revolution Flex stand out. Let’s get into the details!

Apart from the snazzy appearance with rad patterns all over the seat and canopy, Revolution Flex 3.0 has a lot to offer.

Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 is an upgrade of Revolution Flex 2.0. I won’t be reviewing it for the sake of saving time, but if you want to take a look at the older, less expensive version, you can check it out here.

The seat padding is inspired by Kayaks’ seats, it’s a tad narrower than the Revolution Flex 2.0 because of the padding. It has 9 recline positions, all of which can be adjusted using a wrist strap. The maximum reclination is about 70 degrees from the vertical position, so it won’t be suitable for newborns because it lacks the lie-flat position.

It features 3 wheels, the rear wheels are 16 inches, and a swivel one is 12.5 inches. They’re well-crafted to endure rough terrain. No need to worry if you’re going over a bumpy road.

The folding mechanism is straightforward and you can do it in 2 simple steps. Like the rambler, it takes 2 hands to fold. However, it doesn’t stand straight when folded, which is a huge disadvantage, as it makes it hard to store in a car trunk or even at home.

The canopy here is impressive, it’s extra large and has the UV protection feature. Moreover, it provides proper air ventilation. The peek-a-boo window is enclosed by a magnetic strap, which is an improvement over old-fashioned velcro straps. All that you ask for!

Revolution Flex 3.0 has a spacious storage space. Not only is it roomy, but also well-organized, with 6 pockets to put your keys, mobile, and baby’s toys in. All of this is in addition to a large under-seat cargo basket that’s easily accessible, but it’s rather small compared to the jogger’s side.

Regarding adaptability with car seats, it’s no different than the Ramber. Just buy the BOB car seat adapter that accommodates BOB, Britax, and Graco’s car seats.

In case you’re looking for a double BOB stroller, BOB Gear Revolution Flex has a double version. There you have it.

Read on.

BOB Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie Jogging Stroller

BOB Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie Jogging Stroller

Straddling 2 babies around the town in a stroller is already tiring and overwhelming. All you need is a stroller that can ease the mission for you, and the Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie is a good missionary.

Starting from 8 weeks old, you can tuck your baby(s) into the revolution Flex 3.0, which handles up to 50 lbs of weight (in each seat of course). Similar to the regular Revolution Flex, the maximum height is 44 inches.

This stroller is lightweight, especially for a double one. It’s easy to push, steer, and even carry!

Thank God, the handlebar height is adjustable and has up to 9 height positions, no one needs to bend or extend to reach out for the bar anymore. Did we mention that it’s padded as well?

The seat is made of a tightly woven fabric that’s durable and comfy for the babies.

Do NOT try to exceed the weight nor height limits. The stroller can become unstable and in turn compromise your baby’s safety.

No matter what kind of terrain you’re on; gravel, sand, grass, or wood, the Revolution Flex Duallie will glide effortlessly. It moves well and takes tight corners smoothly for a double stroller.

It also features dual canopies with ventilation windows. We love the fact that the canopies are made of water-resistant materials. It has an ample storage compartment as well.

For a double stroller, its price is pretty reasonable.

It’s available in the same color options as the Revolution Flex 3.0, you’ll rock it in any of them. Trust me!

These were our 3 top picks in detailed reviews. To save your time, from now on, we’ll be touching upon the key differences and highlights of each model of BOB strollers to help with the comparison.

BOB Blaze Jogging Stroller

BOB Blaze Jogging Stroller

Another model from BOB that’s dedicated towards serious runners is this Blaze Jogger, with its 16-inches wide front swivel wheel, it’s ready to conquer the toughest terrain with great stability!

BOB Blaze’s main appeal is its advanced suspension system that offers 3 inches for travel mode, and 2 weight support modes to grant stability and comfort.

Taller fellows out there, who usually complain of non-adjustable stroller handlebars, Blaze has got you covered. The handlebar has 9 height adjustment positions!

Unlike most strollers’ wheels that are made of plastic, the wheels here are made of a sturdy durable alloy and are ready to glide over the toughest roads.

If you tried to run down a hill before with a stroller, you’d know how nightmare-ish it is to control your stroller while descending. The Blaze Jogger solves this problem through its handbrake that will help you take full control over this beast. It has a foot parking brake to lock it into place, as well.

The handlebar console features a zipper pocket and 2 bottle holders, so you can stay hydrated while running! In addition to the standard cargo basket and 5 well-distributed pockets.

It features a UPF 50+ large canopy with a peek-a-boo window and of reflective fabric so that you can be seen from afar in low light and/or fog.

The technical specs are similar to the previous models. It carries up to 75 lbs of weight and 44 inches of height. Also, the folding mechanism is no different, a 2-step 2-hands folding mechanism. The price tag is a bit on the higher side, but within the expected range.

Pros

  • Genius hand brakes
  • Comfortable seat
  • Smart spacious storage
  • Speedy & sturdy
  • Impressive suspension

Cons

  • If you ignored regular maintenance, you’ll end up with a flat tire.

Best For: Serious endurance training and running

BOB Stroller Strides Fitness Duallie Jogging Stroller

BOB Stroller Strides Fitness Duallie Jogging Stroller

Another model worthy of consideration is the Stroller Strides Fitness. It’s present in singular and double variations, and it really stands out as a double stroller. That’s why we decided to review the Duallie here.

If you’re interested in the regular BOB Strides Fitness, you can check it out on Amazon here

This is a versatile double stroller that performs well on and off roads. Thanks to its compact design and sturdy air-filled wheels.

It comes with a fitness kit that includes a handlebar console, Stroller Strides exercise manual, SPRI fitness bands, and a coupon for Stroller Strides fitness classes by Fit4mom.

This stroller’s weight is rather on the high side, just like its price, unfortunately.

But it’s still manageable, this actually is the price you pay for stability and proper maneuverability, especially with 2 babies riding in it.

It has a smooth swivel front wheel that can be locked into place when needed. In addition to a highly-functioning suspension system that helps with the effortless pushing around the city.

Each seat reclines to multiple positions individually, which contributes to the versatility I pointed out earlier. Besides, it collapses into a super-compact form in 2 easy steps, making it convenient to carry up the stairs or store in a car trunk.

If you’re looking for a stroller to help you get in shape and lose that baby weight, this is the one for you. It’s a nice way to log some miles on the road!

Pros

  • Superb maneuverability
  • Holds well on rough terrain
  • Fits into narrow spaces
  • Individual adjustable canopy
  • Padded handlebar

Cons

  • Expensive
  • A bit heavy

Best For: Moderately active parents

BOB Sport Utility Jogging Stroller

BOB Sport Utility Jogging Stroller

This is not necessarily a model that we’re fond of, but it performs well off-road.

The main problem with BOB’s Sport Utility is that its front wheel is fixed.

Hence, limited maneuverability. Nonetheless, it has a large weight capacity just like other options (75 lbs.), a spacious cargo basket for your baby’s essentials and yours, 1-hand seat adjustment, and -of course- more stability.

Sport Utility’s foldability is no different than its companions here, needs  2 hands, takes some time, and doesn’t stand straight when folded. Maybe foldability is BOB’s weak spot, after all.

This stroller has nice single action brakes that are foot-activated and flip-flops friendly. They work well and stop the jogger immediately. You won’t face a problem using them, especially that it’s not much of a runner per se.

It’ll take you about 10 minutes to assemble this stroller, which is a pretty quick and straightforward assembly.

Although it’s advertised for running, we don’t recommend this jogger for heavy activity. Unless you tried it yourself and you’re okay with the fixed wheel, that’s another thing!

Why get BOB Sport Utility Jogger, you ask. If you want to reap some BOB’s design and quality benefits for a good price and you’re not willing to go round and about across the city, it might be your pick.

Pros

  • Stable option for inactive parents
  • Efficient suspension
  • Large storage
  • Big canopy
  • 5-point harness

Cons

  • Fixed front wheel limits maneuverability

Best For: Non-active parents

BOB Revolution PRO Jogging Stroller

BOB Revolution PRO Jogging Stroller

BOB Revolution Pro Jogger is a variation of the Revolution Flex. It’s featured on Amazon’s Top Picks list because of its superb performance and affordable price.

This is an all-purpose stroller, it’s suitable for running, hiking, jogging, or even walking. The only pitfall is that it’s about 3 lbs heavier than the Revolution Flex.

Its seat reclines down to 70 degrees from the vertical position with a one-hand adjustment knob. By the end of 2018 and start of 2019, a stream of complaints has flooded the company from people who’d recently purchased the Revolution Pro

The reason was its thru-bolt axle that many customers reported that it broke mid-way when pushed over tough terrain.

The company responded promptly and by July 2019, they replaced the dysfunctional parts. Such a response helped harness the BOB’s credibility.

The weight capacity, storage, canopy, braking system, wheels, and handlebar properties are no different than the Revolution Flex, and the majority of BOB’s models too.

Pros

  • Locking swivel front wheel for smooth steering
  • Large weight capacity
  • Adjustable with car seats
  • One-hand recline button
  • UPF 50+ canopy
  • Compact folding

Cons

  • Relatively heavy

Best For: Hikers

BOB at a Glance

Despite being relatively new to the market -launched in 2005- BOB immediately became a gamechanger in the baby strollers and car seat industry.

To be more precise, the company started out as a bicycles’ company in 1994. Hence, the name BOB ‘Beast of Burden’. But, after the founders, Philip Novotny and Roger Malinowski, started having families, they realized the need for strollers suitable for outdoor activities.

A few years later, they introduced the first BOB Sport Utility stroller to the market. It was nowhere less than ‘revolutionary’.

What’s All the Fuss About?

Introducing sleek jogging strollers made of quality material, efficient suspension, big wheels, and controllable braking systems looks like something the market has been craving for a long time, and BOB responded to that well.

Their signature 3-wheeled joggers are not only directed towards joggers. But the wide front swivel wheel made it possible for swift turning of the stroller so that parents can have even more control over it. When you need to jog you can lock the swivel feature, and if you need to stop, you can use the brakes. Smooth, right?

Moreover, adjustable handlebars and seat recline positions are desirable features to many parents. Who doesn’t want a stroller that has a full seat recline range from an upright seating position to a lie-flat napping one?

BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 Jogging Stroller

Child’s safety is BOB’s strong suit. Their signature 5-point harness system, its accessible wrist strap, and its handbrakes grant your baby’s safety. No matter how rigorous your physical exercise is.

BOB’s strollers’ durability is undebatable. When it comes to sturdiness, stability, and endurance it scores higher than most of its competitors. On the flip side, it’s pretty heavy, with the lightest one weighing around 26 lbs. But everything comes at a price, right?

Here are the key features that make BOB stand out.

  • Well-padded comfortable seats
  • Multiple recline positions with 1 button click
  • Lightweight and easy to maneuver
  • Big air-filled tires around polymer wheels to conquer rough terrain
  • Ample storage in cargo basket
  • Well-distributed storage in pockets and bottle holders
  • Huge knee-covering canopies
  • Ultra reflective fabric
  • Sun protection and water-resistant canopies
  • Safety harness
  • Adjustable height handlebar
  • Padded ergonomic handlebars
  • Smooth swivel with locking feature
  • Single action hand brakes
  • Foot-activated parking brake

Who Are BOB Strollers For?

Ultimately, for the sportive parents. If you’re into sports, or you used to run marathons before having your baby, then these strollers are for you.

BOB Strollers Comparison and Review

BOB strollers are designed with parents who do serious physical activity in mind. Those who want a robust stroller with rugged wheels, and a reliable braking system, so that they can tuck in their baby, lace up their shoes and hit the road. No need to worry about ease of movement or your baby’s security when you choose a BOB stroller.

This doesn’t mean it isn’t convenient for the less active ones, though. What we’re saying is that the necessary safety and maneuverability features are there. These are hard to find elsewhere.

Wheel Maintenance .. What About It?

A recurring issue people face with BOB strollers’ air-filled tires is that if they don’t take good regular care of them, they’ll end up with them deflated somehow. You don’t want this to happen to you during a hiking journey, do you?

First, you need to lubricate the moving parts every once in a while, to ensure smooth maneuverability. Beware not to overdo it with the lubricant, though.

For inflating the tires, there are 2 ways to go; either using a bike pump, or going to the local bike shop.

To do it yourself, follow the following steps.

  1. Unscrew the cap on the valve to remove it.
  2. If your pump has a lever lock, flip it open.
  3. Press the pump onto the valve.
  4. Start pumping air steadily and slowly to avoid ruining the tire.
  5. The recommended pressure on the inside of the tube is 30 psi.
  6. Stop when the tire seems pumped and full.

If you’re a ‘visual’ person, watch this video for full instructions.

How to Fold a BOB Stroller?

Since almost all the models feature the same 2-step folding mechanism, it won’t hurt to take a look at it. Here’s how to fold a BOB stroller.

  1. Empty the cargo basket and bottle holders.
  2. Press the red tabs on the sides of the handlebar and squeeze towards the middle.
  3. Lift the handlebar up, then move it forward.
  4. Pull the red rear handle of the handlebar backward.
  5. It should collapse then.
  6. To finish off, tie the stroller with the wrist strap, if it exists.

And, you’re done!

Storage Tips

We can’t talk about folding mechanisms without talking about how to store the BOB strollers.

Unfortunately, most BOB models can’t stand straight when folded, which can be troublesome to many.

However, it’s still compact, so it shouldn’t occupy much space when folded.

BOB Strollers Folding Feature

Make sure to store it in a well-ventilated area to prevent it from picking dust, dirt, or odor. Also, keep it away from direct sunlight to protect the plastic parts from cracking. Besides, this can help keep the fabric in a good state.

How to Wash a BOB Stroller?

With most of their products, you’ll find BOB manufacturers advising you against using detergents with the seats. It’s convincing, taking into consideration that the seat is well padded and probably a harsh soap will ruin the internal padding.

The best way to clean a BOB stroller seat is to soak a piece of dry cloth in lukewarm water with mild soap and go through the seat, wiping off any stains. Rinse the seat thoroughly afterward, you don’t want any soap residue.

Then, leave it to dry, preferably in a well-ventilated area under the sun, not direct sun though, and it’ll become as good as new!

Can I Use a Jogging Stroller Instead of a Regular One?

Short answer. Yes.

Use a Jogging Stroller

There are no rules that say you should use a jogging stroller only during running or jogging.

Yet, they can be impractical in many situations when stability is favored over maneuverability. In crowded spaces, or off the road, for example.

Furthermore, they’re relatively heavier than regular light strollers. It’s your call.

Bottom Line

Take it from a fellow runner, you can’t go wrong with a BOB!

Its withstanding wheels, easy maneuverability, and highly functional brakes make it a bliss to push around while running. Besides, it’s feature-packed for the parents’ comfort. The adjustable padded ergonomic handlebar, the numerous pockets and cargo basket, the hand and/or foot-activated single action brakes, all are devoted to your comfort.

If you’re the self-denying type and all you care about is your baby’s comfort, you’ll also find it at BOB’s products. The adjustable multi-recline well-padded seats, the huge UPF canopies, and the safety harness all contribute to your kid’s comfort and safety.

All of this comes at a really reasonable price that’s compatible with the features’ worth. All what’s left is to choose the model that suits you according to your needs. We hope we’ve helped you with that throughout the article. Happy running!
